I recently started working with a young lady in her mid 20s and have only had about three sessions thus far. But the work that we’ve been doing together powered by God‘s Holy Spirit, have yielded some beautiful fruit already.
She wrote the following incredible letter to her younger self that I found to be one of the most beautiful and telling and descriptive stories of so many adults today that have never reconciled with their growing up experiences and consequently not knowing their identity today as adults. The following is her letter.
“Dear Me, I See You Now (And So Does God)
I’m so sorry.
I’m sorry for the tears you cried at night in silence—when no one noticed or cared.
I’m sorry you had to pretend everything was okay while your heart was quietly breaking.
You never deserved to feel like an afterthought.
You were worthy of love that stayed.
I’m sorry for the moments after being close to him when your body felt touched but your soul felt abandoned.
You never deserved to feel empty after giving so much of yourself.
You were craving love—and got crumbs dressed as intimacy.
You weren’t weak.
You were human.
You were just searching for something to fill the ache that only God could truly hold.
But even in those moments—He was there.
God was beside you in the dark.
God was catching every single tear you cried.
And now… He’s here.
Healing. Restoring.
Making all things new.
I see the girl who tried so hard to be enough.
Who carried shame that was never hers.
Who thought love was something she had to earn by shrinking, apologizing, performing.
But God says—you are already enough.
You are chosen.
You are forgiven.
You are being redeemed—not just cleaned up, but restored in full.
⸻
And so I promise:
I will not betray you again to keep someone else comfortable.
I will not silence your pain or rush your healing.
I will not abandon you to keep the peace.
I will not measure your value by how much you give or how little you ask for.
I will not confuse being needed with being loved.
I will not let you go to sleep aching and unheard again.
I promise to rest when you’re tired.
To grieve what was lost.
To protect your tenderness like holy ground.
To speak gently to you—even when the world is loud.
To honor your growth, even when others don’t understand it.
I promise to let God love you more than anyone else ever could.
To let His voice be louder than shame.
To let His peace be your compass.
To let His grace rebuild everything that was torn down.
We are not going back.
Together, with God holding us—
we are walking home.
Love,
Me.
And the God who never left.”
By going through a process of strong pastoral, counseling and discipleship God‘s intention is that you find freedom to be who you’re genuinely are and a continue to become more and more that person as you grow. His love, never fails. He will never leave you alone. And in fact, we can’t do this on our own and we were never intended to. I hope this helps someone today share it with some friends. That you think might benefit from it I told this young lady that she would impact many people with her story. I was shocked that it started to happen so quickly. But she is hungry and ready to enter into her relationship with God as she has never experienced him before. May we all be in that position.
